Project title: Metagenomic approaches for the study of lignocellulosic degrading enzymes
Research: I am currently in the first phase of the project which include gene discovery using metagenomic approaches. Later phases of the project will include characterization and protein engineering studies. The ultimate aim of the research is toward effectively treating lignocellulosic material with novel enzymes for the bioethanol fermentation process.
About me: I am in my first year of PhD and first year at UWC. My Msc was completed at the University of Stellenbosch which was aimed at identifying glycosyl transferases that produce novel biopolymers. Outside the laboratory my interests lie outdoors with soccer, reading and music.
