Research Project:
My research project involves the identification of novel thermophilic enzymes for the pre?treatment of lignocellulosic biomass.
Who am I:
I recently submitted my PhD in Molecular Biology, from the University of Cape Town (UCT), for examination. My thesis title was: “Molecular characterisation of the Vibrio midae SY9 extracellular protease and its role in the previously observed probiotic effect on the growth of Haliotis midae”. My undergraduate degree was also from UCT, with majors in Microbiology and Biotechnology.
I have a general interest in Molecular Biology and Microbial Biotechnology, particularly with respect to microorganisms found in marine environments.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy relaxing at home and spending time with my wife. I also like watching and playing sport, especially hockey and squash.
