I obtained my PhD from Stellenbosch University (US), Microbiology Department. After staying at home for three years (my two children, Noah and Anouk, were born in this period), I accepted a post-doctoral research position at the Institute for Plant Biotechnology in the Genetics Department, US. Since August 2009 I am engaged as Group Leader at the IMBM at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), where I am contributing to the establishment of a South African biofuels platform. I would qualify myself as an enthusiastic and versatile molecular biologist with research and management experience in several other relevant disciplines. This combination of skills enables me to conduct and support a multidisciplinary research effort.
When I am not working, I enjoy tasting wine. At US I serve on expert wine-tasting panels in the Food Science Department and the Institute for Wine Biotechnology. I am Associate Editor of the SA Journal for Enology and Viticulture (SAJEV) and am a Wine Master graduate.
