WHO AM I
I obtained my PhD from Stellenbosch University (Microbiology Department) followed by a post-doctoral research position at the Institute for Plant Biotechnology (Genetics Department). Since August 2009 I am engaged as Group Leader at the IMBM at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), where I am contributing to the establishment of a South African biofuels platform. Research activities include the development of (a) novel industrial biocatalysts, (b) bioactive marine products and (c) the study of plant pathogen defence. I would qualify myself as an enthusiastic and versatile molecular biologist with research and management experience in several other relevant disciplines. This combination of skills enables me to conduct and support a multidisciplinary research effort. Having a keen interest in wine, I have graduated as a Wine Master and serve as Associate Editor of the SA Journal for Enology and Viticulture.
