Heterologous expression of marine derived quorum signal synthases
I am a postdoctoral research fellow at IMBM involved in projects that focus on the discovery of pharmaceutically relevant natural products from marine invertebrate symbionts. I am well versed in bacterial extract preparation and antibacterial screening.
Currently, my focus is on the heterologous expression of quorum signal synthase genes from a marine bacterium and characterization of these quorum sensing signals. The aim of this project is to investigate the role of these signals as inducers of secondary metabolism and their potential role as quorum quenchers. My journey at IMBM started in 2014 as an undergraduate intern. I have a BSc. Biotechnology, BSc. Hons. Biotechnology and PhD Biotechnology from the university of the Western Cape.
