IMBM now boasts two Mk1c and a P2Solo Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencers. The P2Solo and one of the Mk1c’s forms part of our partnership with the DIPLOMICS working group to train students and researchers from across South Africa and further afield on this sequencing platform. The improved read length compared with other technologies allows for the assembly of complete bacterial and small Eukaryote genomes. Coupled with continued improvement in base call accuracy with the release of the Q20+ chemistry the ONT machines are formidable sequencers offering comparable cost per base pair to other platforms. These machines are available for use by outside researchers. Please contact Dr. Lonnie van Zyl (lvanzyl@uwc.ac.za) to arrange for training on, or use of the sequencers.
