Dr. Elzaan Booysen

I am a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Microbiology Biotechnology and Metagenomics (IMBM). I have a BSc Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, BSc (Honours) Microbiology, MSc Microbiology and PhD Microbiology from the University of Stellenbosch. During my PhD I focused on novel antimicrobial compounds from entomopathogenic bacteria mutually associated with Steinernema nematodes.

Currently, I am involved in two projects, the first entails the characterization of butyrolactone synthetase genes and molecules from marine bacteria isolated in Port Elizabeth. The second project entails testing novel biosurfactant cocktails for their ability to prevent the formation of biofilms in water cooling towers
